In practice
Currency is personal, perishable, and specific: day versus night, category and class, instrument approaches for IFR. In a shared fleet it becomes an organizational concern, because the club's insurance and the club's airplanes are on the line. The clean pattern is per-pilot tracking with booking-time checks - not to police pilots, but so nobody discovers a lapse at the accident hearing.
