Labor clock and time entries

Time on a job comes from the work timer. A technician starts it, works, and stops it with a note. There is no typing hours in after the fact.

Start and stop

Click Start work at the top of the work order. The clock runs until you click Stop work. Stopping asks What did you work on?, and the note is required, up to 300 characters. Click Stop and log to save it.

You can also stop your timer from On the clock on the dashboard.

Each person runs their own timer. Two technicians on the same job each clock in separately. One person cannot run two timers on the same work order.

When the clock will not start

• The job is not active. The timer only runs on active work orders.
• The job is waiting on the customer to approve its estimate.
• The job is complete or canceled. Those are read-only.

Completing or canceling a job stops every timer still running on it.

Fixing a wrong entry

You cannot edit the start or end time of an entry. If one is wrong, click Void on the Work time log and say why. The entry stays on the log, struck through, with who voided it and the reason. Anyone who can edit the work order can void an entry.

An entry longer than 16 hours gets a warning asking if the timer was left running.

Rounding and rates

When the clock stops, the time is rounded up and the minimum charge applied, following the Time rules in Shop settings.

The entry takes the technician’s own labor rate if they have one, otherwise the shop’s default rate.

Clocked time does not bill itself. At sign-off, the person completing the job chooses whether to bill the time on the timer as labor, and can adjust the hours and rate for each technician before it posts.
