Aircraft Groups

Most operators already divide their fleet into sets: the trainers, the Cherokees, the complex aircraft. An aircraft group gives a name to one of these sets. Then the schedule builder books from the correct aircraft, and you can filter a crowded calendar to the aircraft that you need.

Groups are under Aircraft, then Groups. All users who can see the fleet can see this page. To create and edit groups, you need the aircraft management permission.

Create a group

Give the group a name and a color. Then select its aircraft from your fleet. You can change the list at any time.

An aircraft can be in as many groups as necessary. For example, "Trainers" can hold all ten aircraft, and "C172 Fleet" and "Cherokee Fleet" can hold five each. Thus one syllabus can use a mixed fleet, and one student can stay on one aircraft type.

Control which aircraft a lesson books

You can set a group in three places. The most specific setting has priority:

On a lesson template - this one lesson needs a specific set of aircraft.
On the enrollment of a student - this student stays on these tail numbers.
On the syllabus - the default for all lessons in the course.

If no setting names a group, the schedule builder works as before. It takes any applicable aircraft that is free at that location. Each picker shows "(any aircraft)" as the empty option. If you archive a group later, the schedule builder uses the same fallback, and the syllabus continues to work.

Prefer the aircraft that a student flew last

Builder Settings has one more option. The builder can take any free aircraft from the group, or prefer the aircraft that the student flew last. This preference is not strict. If that aircraft is already booked, the builder uses the other aircraft in the group, and it does not drop the lesson. Thus students who fly better on one panel stay on it, and the schedule still fills.

Filter the schedule

You can also use groups to filter the schedule. Select a group on the schedule, on a computer or a phone. The view then shows only the aircraft in that group, also on a busy day.

Archive and restore

When you retire a group, Resyrv archives it. The group goes out of the pickers and the filter. All settings that use the group change to any aircraft. No data is lost. After you archive a group, Show archived shows on the Groups page. It lists the groups that you retired, and you can restore each group with its aircraft.
